Welcome!

The first of the one hundred forty-first Field Artillery Battalion or "Battalion Washington Artillery" is the oldest still active Artillery Unit in the National Guard. With a service record that stretches from the Civil War through the Spanish American War, both World Wars, and Now Operation Iraqi Freedom, The Washington Artillery has served and continues to serve as guardians of freedom and democracy. Based out of New Orleans, Louisianna The Battalion is part of the 256 BCT, Louisianna National Guard. We Hope you find this site both interesting and informative.

The Battalion Today

The Battalion is currently deployed in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom III. In addition to our "normal" artillery mission we are involved in base defense and Infantry style patrols. Stripped of some of our firing batteries and reenforced by companies from other units, "Task Force Thunder" is the professional and flexible current incarnation of one of the oldest and most storied units in American military history. In keeping with our unoffical motto, "Let's leave Iraq better than we found it," we are also running a program called "kids for kids" as a way for children (and adults) back in the United States to help the children here with donations of clothing, school supplies and toys. Run by our enlisted soldiers and junior noncommssioned officers Kids for Kids is our attempt to bring the peoples of Iraq and the US together.

Whatever future battlefields or civil defense emergencies the future holds the 1/141st Field Artillery stands ready to face them. With pride in our past and one eye on the future, we will face challenges with professionalism, competance and compassion. "Try Us!"

The Mission of field artillery (FA) is to destroy, neutralize, or suppress the enemy by cannon, rocket, and missile fire and to help integrate all fire support assets into combined arms operations.
